Employee stabbed outside Hardees

After an employee was stabbed in the parking lot of Hardees on Friday, Princeton police are on the search for the suspected attacker.
Witnesses told officers that Jeremiah Fitzgerald Atkinson, 27, of Third Street had clocked out after his shift at Hardees. A white male with blond hair and blue eyes entered and asked to speak to Mr. Atkinson. He walked outside with the man.
A woman who was outside waiting for a ride told officers that the two men began arguing about someone calling social services, and the argument escalated into a fight, during which the man stabbed Mr. Atkinson with a knife. She then went inside to tell the manager.
As the manager approached the door, he said the suspect jumped into a red, older model truck and fled the premise.
Mr. Atkinson then re-entered the building with a stab wound. He was transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital, where the wound and a punctured lung were treated. He was scheduled to go home Tuesday.

Princeton Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ken Starling (left) accepts a $10,000 matching grant from the State of North Carolina, presented by Assistant State Fire Marshal Wayne Goodwin. The funds were used to purchase equipment that helps to rescue people from mangled cars. The money was given as a part of the Fire Grant Fund, which was created in 1988 to help volunteer fire departments raise money for equipment. To date, Princeton Volunteer Fire Department has received $96,519.92 through these grants. (NL Photo by Wise)
