Eagles split results with Panthers, ‘Cats, Gators

The Rosewood High School girls’ basketball team was beaten Tuesday by North Johnston 54-47.
The Lady Eagles (7-7, 2-1) were led by Courtney Hill with 17 points. Mary Jo Moore and Kasie Braswell had nine and eight points, respectively, while Shanita Monroe contributed five points and Ashley Williams had four.
Another hard-fought game on Wednesday against Hobbton brought the Lady Eagles’ a 54-48 overtime victory.
Braswell played a fierce game, sinking 18 points for the Eagles, including four from the free throw line, where she was 4-for-5. Hill reinforced the offense, scoring 16 points of her own. More than half of Hill’s points came from free throws — she was 9-for-12 Wednesday night.
Monroe and Moore each contributed six points, while Meadows put four on the board and Williams had three. Johnson also contributed one.
On Friday, Rosewood picked up an easy 65-46 conference win over visiting Spring Creek. Hill had a pair of 3-pointers and went 13-for-15 from the free-throw line to amass 31 points. Monroe had 10 points and Braswell had eight, while Halie Meadows had six points Mary Jo Moore had four, Shantal Johnson three, Karli Beasley two and Ashley Williams one.
The Rosewood boys’ basketball team picked up its first conference win of the season Tuesday against North Johnston in a 57-42 win.
Dennis Jones led the scoring for the Eagles with 14 points, while Holt Rains put 13 on the board. Stephen McIntyre and Tyler Allen followed closely with nine and eight points, while Joey Boyette had six, Adrian Dhanraj, Josh Myers, and Tyler Muntz with two points each, and Sean Cornman with one.
On Wednesday, Rosewood took on Hobbton at home, taking a 47-31 loss.
Allen and Jones were the lead scorers, bringing in nine and eight points, while Muntz added five. Rains and Myers each contributed three points, and McIntyre had one as well.
The Spring Creek Gators handed Rosewood a 62-55 loss Friday.
The Rosewood scoring came from the inside, with Jones knocking in 11 for Rosewood and Rains adding nine. Allen and Myers had seven points each, while Boyette and McIntyre had six each, Dhanraj had five and Cornman had four.
Rosewood will play next Friday night, when they will face rival Princeton in a road game.
