Princeton gets seven runs in 4th as PHS pummels Cary
In Thursday’s night cap of the opening day of the Deacon Jones Invitational, the Bulldogs showed the effects of some time off. When the fourth inning came around, the Bulldogs regained their bite.
Princeton pummeled two Cary Academy pitchers for seven runs on eight hits as the Bulldogs advanced on a 12-2 win.
The big knock in the inning was a three-run homer off the bat of Dustin Pate.
The seven runs pushed the Princeton advantage to 10-2, and when Andrew Cobb came up in the fifth with two on and brought them home with a solid single, the game was called due to the ten-run rule.
Chris Hinton earned his fifth mound win in six decisions Thursday, limiting the Chargers to four hits while striking out four.
Daniel Gerrell and Andrew Cobb led the Princeton hitters with three singles apiece. Colin Parker and Adam Nethercutt each added two hits.
Thursday’s win was the eighth in a row, but that streak came to an end the following night.
