Lady Bulldogs top RHS, SC, hold first place

The Lady Bulldogs maintained their league lead with a win over the Lady Eagles, 11-1, in a six-inning shortened affair last Tuesday.

Princeton opened a 3-0 lead in the first, and jumped on Rosewood with seven more in the sixth to close out the game.

Haylee Wood led Princeton with three hits, while Ashley Braswell and Hannah Wood added two hits apiece.

Amber Wood picked up the win on the mound, striking out four and not allowing a walk while limiting Rosewood to a single run in the sixth.

After a win streak put them in contention, the Rosewood girls slipped again Friday, falling at Ayden-Grifton, 2-1. The loss leaves them at 3-3 in conference standings, and 7-9 overall.

The Lady Bulldog bats remained hot Friday as the Princeton girls pummeled Spring Creek’s girls, 19-0.

Princeton scored 15 runs in the first two innings to coast to the win.
Amber Wood, Ashley Braswell and Haylee Wood each had three hits in the win. Rebecca Harlan, Tylan George and Brittany Baker each added two hits. The Lady Bulldogs finished the game with 18 hits, and Spring Creek had seven errors.

Amber Wood pitched the first two innings, and Maegan Myers finished the final three. The game was called after the top of the fifth on the ten-run rule. The Lady Bulldog pitchers combined for a no-hitter, and split four strikeouts, with Myers allowing the only Lady Gator walk.

The win improved Princeton’s league leading record to 6-0, and they are 10-4 overall.

The Lady Bulldogs will risk their perfect mark at North Duplin Tuesday, travel to second place North Johnston on Friday, and host the other team tied for second, Ayden-Grifton next Tuesday. North Johnston and Ayden-Grifton are both two games back in the league race.
