Eagles almost let one get away at Ayden-Grifton
Ayden-Grifton pushed across nine runs in the bottom of the seventh Friday night to push Rosewood to extra innings, but the Eagles stopped the bleeding there, and rallied for a 12-11 win in ten innings.
Goss Kendall provided the game winning single in the tenth. Taylor Allen scored after reaching on a single and advancing on a walk.
Kendall also led the Rosewood hitters with four hits and two rbi’s. Cody Richards and David Smeltzer each added three hits for the Eagles.
Rosewood Coach Josh Smith commented Tuesday morning, “We played well and got ahead, and then sat back on our heels. Ayden snuck up on us. We committed three errors in the inning. Bu we battled and fought and hung in there to get the win.”
The Eagles remained two games back of Princeton with a 4-2 mark, and battled North Johnston, who is in second place in the conference, on the Rosewood diamond Tuesday. Wednesday the Eagles host Wayne Country Day in a non-conference game. Friday they jump back into league play at Spring Creek, and Tuesday they host North Duplin.
Coach Smith was looking forward particularly to the game against North Johnston. “(NJ’s) Coach Lawhon was my mentor, my coach when I played.”
Rosewood is 12-4 in all games.
