Workers Memorial Day ceremony set for Fri.
A ceremony honoring workers who have lost their lives while on the job is being hosted April 27 by the North Carolina Employment Security Commission.
Friday’s ceremony—organized by the ESC for the sixth year—will begin at 10 a.m. on the front lawn of the Kendall Building at the ESC’s Central Office (700 Wade Avenue) in Raleigh.
“Workers Memorial Day is a time for us to reflect on the safety and well-being of our greatest resource—North Carolina’s workers,” said ESC Chairman Harry E. Payne Jr. “Without healthy workers and safe workplaces, our state’s economy suffers. In addition, the need to strive each day for a better and safer workplace is critical.”
Friday’s observance will have ESC Deputy Chairman for Administration & Communications David L. Clegg presiding, with remarks by Payne and a keynote address from William T. McGlothlin, executive director of The Ergonomics Center of North Carolina in Raleigh.
Special events as part of this year’s event will include a Memorial Candle Lighting and a special planting in the ESC Memorial Garden.
