Free hearing screenings
3 May 2007 - Since 1927, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association celebrates Better Hearing and Speech Month each May. This month of awareness is a good time to analyze your own hearing and determine if you are one of the estimated 28 million Americans who have a hearing loss that can be treated. You may have a hearing loss if you:
• frequently ask people to repeat themselves
• hear people speaking but don't understand what is said
• understand speech better when looking directly at the person speaking
• lose your place in group conversations
• keep the volume on your radio or TV at a level that others say is too loud
• have ringing or other noises in your ears
“People who see themselves in these statements should see an audiologist or licensed hearing professional for a hearing test,” says Tonya Barlow, M.A., CCC-A, Director of Audiology of Avada Hearing Care Centers in Louisville, Kentucky.
According to hearing healthcare professionals, annual hearing checkups are recommended for those individuals age 45 and over.
To celebrate “Better Hearing and Speech,” Avada Hearing Care Centers will be offering free hearing screenings during the month of May. If you are over the age of 45 and have not had a hearing screening in the last twelve months, you are encouraged to call your nearest Avada Hearing Care Center for a free hearing screening and private consultation.
