Vote on bond issue Tuesday to support Princeton school

3 May 2007 - Johnston County voters will go to the polls next Tuesday to vote on $112.7 million in bonds to fund new and remodeled schools, new construction at Johnston Community College, and to help fund recreation facilities across the county.

Polls open at 6:30 a.m. and will close at 7:30 p.m.

North Boon Hill Precinct (Precinct 7) voters cast ballots at Princeton Baptist Church’s fellowship hall on Second St. South Boon Hill (Precinct 8) vote at the Brogden Fire Department on Brogden Rd. Pine Level (Precinct 22) voters should go to the Pine Level Fire Department.

Voters will be asked to approve or reject three separate issues, as each of the needs is funded by separate bonds. The schools bond issues is $99 million. $10 million will go to the community college. Various recreation programs, six in rural areas, along with the ten incorporated towns and cities, will receive a total of $3.7 million if the recreation bond is approved.

The community college money is earmarked for a new allied health building at the school, along with a new college library.
Princeton will receive $150,000 for their recreation program if the recreation bond is approved.

If the school bond is approved, part of that money will go to fund a new elementary school to serve the Princeton School district, relieving overcrowding at the present K-12 campus. (An interview with School Board Chairman Fred Bartholomew about the school bond was in last week’s News Leader and is available here.)
