ROBERT E. BEASLEY
Robert Eugene Beasley, 72, of Smithfield, died Thursday, May 17 at home.
Born in Johnston County on October 20, 1934, he was the son of the late Elton and Hazel Bridgers Beasley.
Beasley was a member of Wilson’s Mills Baptist Church. He retired from the Smithfield Fire Department in 1990 after 23 years of service. He was a life long electrical contractor and the owner of Beasley’s Electrical Service.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. The Revs. Billie Lawson and Tim Brown officiated. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Maybelle Capps Beasley; three sons, William Capps of Pine Level, Tony Beasley of Lexington and Stacy Beasley of Kenly; one daughter, Debra Capps of Wilson’s Mills; two brothers, Clifton Beasley and Howard Beasley, both of Wilson’s Mills; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Wilson’s Mills Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box C, Wilson’s Mills, N.C., 27593 or to the Smithfield Fire Department’s “Big Bill Restoration Fund”, 111 South First Street, Smithfield, N.C., 27576.
HELEN H. CAPPS
Helen Hill Capps, 97, of Smithfield, died Wednesday, May 16.
Born in Johnston County, Mrs. Capps was the daughter of the late Claude and Mattie Smith Hill. She was the widow of Samuel Capps, who died in 1983. Mrs. Hill had been a secretary and bookkeeper for First Citizens Bank. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield for almost 60 years. Also, Mrs. Hill was a member of the Pomona Creech Home Demonstration Club.
The funeral was held Friday morning at First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield. Burial followed in Oakland Heights Cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Cecil Capps of Princeton and Tony Capps of Smithfield; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1159, Smithfield, N.C. 27577; or to the Johnston County Heritage Center, 241 E. Market St., Smithfield, N.C. 27577.
DONALD R. KEENON
Donald Ray Keenon, 61, of Princeton, died Saturday, May 12, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.
Arrangements are by McKinnie Memorial and Bailey Funeral Home in Selma.
CARL PIERCE
Carl Pierce, 81, of Princeton, died Saturday in his home.
Mr. Pierce was born on October 31, 1925 in Wayne County to the late Marvin and Mary “Ebbie” Woodard Pierce. He was a member of Antioch Presbyterian Church and was a retired farmer and truck driver.
Funeral services were held Monday evening at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. Lewis Baker officiating. Burial was Tuesday morning at Wayne Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Cole Pierce; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Hal Pierce of Winterville and Danny and Sheree Pierce of Princeton; and two grandchildren, Carla Pierce and Chris Pierce.
Mr. Pierce is also survived by his sister, Lura Hines of Goldsboro; his brother, Hoover Pierce of Princeton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Lynn Pierce; a granddaughter, Dana Pierce; and a daughter-in-law, Eldean Pierce.
