Pender ends PHS girls' season in second round

24 May 2007 — “We played a good team,” Princeton Softball Coach Terry Braswell said Monday morning after his team lost in the second round of the state playoffs last Friday.

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to defending state champions Pender High School, and the Lady Patriots behind solid pitching shut out Princeton, 10-0.

April Keene opened the game on the mound, and after shutting them out for the first two innings, she yielded three runs in the third, and three more in the fourth. Amber Wood came on in the fifth and she gave up four more runs in the sixth to end the game early.

Only Haylee Wood and Jill Whitley solved the Lady Patriot pitcher for a hit. Sarah Eonta reached on a walk.

The loss left Princeton at 14-8 for the year.

Coach Braswell was pleased despite the loss. He only loses one senior, shortstop Haylee Wood. “We should be strong again next year.”
