Water conservation in effect

30 May 2007 — Johnston County Manager Rick Hester has issued a mandatory water conservation notice for all customers served by the Johnston County water supply system, including towns and private utilities served by the County, as well as customers of County water districts.

“The combination of undetermined water loss during the night and high demand due to dry weather conditions make this necessary,” stated Hester.

This notice applies to irrigation of lawns and gardens and other non-essential uses. This action is expected to be temporary and will be lifted at the appropriate time.

Fork Township Sanitary District is asking all water customers to voluntarily conserve water through September 2007, effective immediately. During these last few weeks, the water system has experienced very high usage due to the lack of rainfall and unusually high water consumption by lawn irrigation systems. Also, some water has been discolored due to excessive water usage in the system. Daily water usage within the system has almost doubled since March. FTSD enters into restrictions when the well run times exceed 12 hours per day to meet demand and maintain water system storage.

Fork asks that the customers reduce their water consumption whenever possible, including limiting lawn irrigation. If the voluntarily restrictions do not work, mandatory restrictions may be enacted, and violators punished with penalties and fines. Fork Township Sanitary District is sorry for any inconvenience this has or will cause to customers. If you have any questions, please call the office at 736-2551.
