Anderson will coach PHS girls’ basketball

6 June 2007 — Princeton High School will have a new girls' basketball head coach when the season starts next winter.

David Anderson, who served as an assistant to Coach Ricky Boyette last season, will take over the program.

Coach Anderson, who teaches Algebra, was busy Monday getting his picture with the State Championship baseball team, as he is an assistant and kept the stats. He also was an assistant coach with the middle school football team last fall.

Coach Anderson was thankful for the year working with Coach Boyette. “It was a privilege to have that year under Ricky. He taught me a tremendous amount. I just want to continue the success he brought to the program.”

He came to Princeton from Hunt. He had served as an assistant for the baseball team and was head JV coach at Hunt. He previously coached at Garner and North Johnston.

He was a three sport athlete at North Johnston, and a 1992 graduate. Shortly after graduation, he suffered a spinal injury in a car accident that has confined him to a wheelchair. He has a specially equipped van and between the wheelchair and the van, there are not many places he doesn’t get to. Now he will be on the basketball court as head girls’ coach.

“I will stress discipline, and having fun,” he said Monday. “We’ll be in shape and we’ll run, but we’ll be small next year. I want to instill faith in themselves and the team.”
