Grassroots art grants available

18 July 2007 — Application forms are now available for the Grassroots Arts Program in Johnston County. Johnston County Arts Council encourages new applicants, emerging and established arts organizations and non-profit service organizations with arts programs to apply. Typical non-arts organizations allowed to apply are libraries, historical societies, civic groups, recreation departments and downtown development associations. Funds may be used for programs in dance, drama, crafts, folk arts, literature, music, photography, visual arts, film and video, as well as other art forms.

For an application, please call the Arts Council’s office at 919-553-1930, email your request to info@johnstoncountyarts.org, or visit the Johnston County Arts Council’s webpage: www.johnstoncountyarts.org. Applications must be received in the Council’s office no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2007. A workshop will be held July 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Town Annex Building, 231 East Second St., Clayton to assist applicants in completing the forms. Attendance is encouraged.

To be eligible for funding, non-profit organizations must be located within Johnston County. Programs will be evaluated for organizational stability, ability to generate 1:1 matching funds, audience development (size and cultural diversity), artistic quality, responsiveness to the community’s artistic needs and community outreach.
