Princeton downtown in for some changes
18 July 2007 — A Pine Level renovator and developer has bought up a chunk of downtown Princeton.
Several months ago, Jeff Stephenson bought the old Gurley Mill on Pine Street. After he began work on the old structure, which had most recently housed an antique mall, he noticed that the town was trying to sell the old town hall and fire department buildings next door.
Earlier this year, he submitted a bid of $40,000 for the three buildings and the lot behind, where the old town water tank stands. His bid was accepted with the condition that Mr. Stephenson accept the responsibility for taking down the old water tank.
Since buying the town property, Mr. Stephenson has been focusing his efforts there.
Mr. Stephenson is doing much of the work himself, along with help he hires. He hopes to soon restore and renovate the old town buildings and turn them into business rental properties.

He has some experience with that process, having re-done a building in Selma some years ago.
He has done work on the roofs of the old buildings, and already has begun to suspend a ceiling in the old fire department, though quite a bit more needs to be done before the buildings will be ready to rent. Mr. Stephenson said Monday that he needs to get the buildings in shape as soon as he can.
He also said that work on the old mill will be postponed until he completes the work on the town buildings. That could well be a five year project, perhaps longer.
