PHS sports get in gear

1 August 2007 — Princeton’s varsity and junior varsity football players reported to begin training camp Monday.

Coach Russell Williamson said his main goal this week will be to divide the team into the varsity and junior varsity squads.

Beginning his third consecutive season as head coach, Coach Williamson feels good about where the team is starting. He said except for integrating the freshmen, the team will be very familiar with their passing and running attacks.

While they had about 65 last year at this time, he expects numbers to be down to between 50 and 60, due to a smaller freshman class this fall.

The players won’t be in shoulder pads until Thursday, and they won’t be wearing full gear until next Monday.

Coach Williamson expects to keep practice at 6 p.m. until at least next week, unless the heat gets too bad that early in the evening.

Volleyball and cross country practice will begin next week at Princeton. Volleyball players are asked to report to the old high school gym next Monday at 5:30 p.m. They are required to have physicals and the proper forms to participate.

Those interested in running cross country are asked to report to the football field at 6 p.m., also on Monday. Similarly, they will need to bring in physical forms at that time.
