Luke reaches his goal!

22 August 2007 — Princeton students have one last celebration before heading back to the books.

Job Warrick family reunion

The annual family reunion for the descendants of Job Warrick Sr. will be held at Bizzell Grove Church Fellowship Hall on Sunday, August 26 at 1 p.m. All family members are encouraged to attend, and bring a picnic basket and beverage.

sheriff's report

A 20-year old Princeton area resident was charged with misdemeanor theft of a vehicle last week.

Joseph Butler Bradley of Old Rock Quarry Rd. was arrested by Johnston County Sheriff’s deputies at 1:17 a.m. on Friday morning. The theft of the 1997 Saturn was reported by Tammy Horton of Selma. He was also charged with driving after consuming alcohol under 21, and driving while license revoked.

Last Tuesday he reported his girlfriend’s stepfather, Fredrick Sanders, had come to his home and started a fight.

Jude David Adams, 28, of Madison Ave., Princeton, was charged with assault on a female last Wednesday at 12:08 p.m.

Friday at 3:19 p.m. Joseph Ralph Whitaker of Progressive Church Road, Princeton, reported the theft of a $300 blow torch.

Rosewood thief arrested

An arrest has been made in connection with break-ins in the Rosewood community.

Dedra Kay Stilley, 40, of 975 Rosewood Road, was arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and possession of stolen goods. Her bond was set at $7,500.

Some property has been recovered and returned to the owner in the case.

Princeton water fix delayed

Like the boy who put his finger in the hole in the dike, Princeton found two more leaks after fixing one last week.

After a planned turning off the water to fix some water leaks last Thursday night, when the water was turned back on, two more leaks sprang up.

Water was turned off again in the day last Friday to fix a leak on Railroad St. A leaking valve on 1st and Center was taken care of as well.

Air in the lines and the rushing of water back into empty lines put stresses on the water system, causing the leaks. It also caused some sediment in the system to break loose, causing discoloration of some water. That was usually cleared by just flushing pipes for a brief time.

Hephzibah Baptist Church's Founders Day celebration

Hephzibah Baptist Church invites family and friends, past and present, to the 95th Founders Day Celebration on Sunday, August 26. Sunday school will begin at 10 a.m., worship service at 11 a.m., with dinner on the grounds. Dress in vintage clothing representing any decade since the church’s founding in 1912. Old-fashioned home and farm items will be on display, along with old photographs.

Mosquito spraying begins

Mosquito spraying has begun in Princeton.

Police Chief Eddie Lewis, who supervises the spraying in town, says that due to the excessive heat, the town will be spraying in the early morning. Traditional spraying times, in the afternoon, would not be effective.

He said spraying would start at 5:15 to 5:30 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and should be completed by 7 a.m.

While the chemicals are non-toxic, those with asthma should wait until after the spraying as the chemical settles into low areas to go outside.

'Tagging' damage in Princeton

Princeton Police investigated “tagging” at three different sites in town last week.

Some spray painting was done at the school, a truck was painted at the Mortex plant, and a fence and buildings were painted at Dellwood Apartments. Damages were estimated at $150, $250 and $400 respectively.

Princeton Police continue to investigate.

Fall revival

St. Stephens Church of Christ Fall Revival will commence on August 27 and end on August 31. Speaker for the week will be Elder Preston L. Harris, from J.T. Kerr Memorial Baptist Church in Jacksonville. St. Stephens is located at 301 W. First Street in Princeton. Choirs from throughout the county will provide the music. Services will begin nightly at 7:30. Please come out and fellowship.
