NICHOLAS 'NICK' MELVIN

Nicholas "Nick" Melvin, 24, of Goldsboro, died Sunday afternoon, August 19, in an automobile accident.

Born in Wayne County on March 28, 1983, he was the son of Dale and Brenda Melvin of Dudley. Nick was a member of Bethel Church.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 22 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Church. Pastor Steve Holder officiated. Burial followed in Wayne Memorial Park.

In addition to his parents, Nick is survived by a brother, Chris Melvin of Goldsboro; maternal grandparents, William B. Jr. and Leona Davis of Goldsboro; paternal grandfather, Chester B. Melvin of Dudley; maternal great-grandmother, Rosa Davis of Princeton; aunts and uncle, Ed and Lou Davis of Goldsboro, Sheila Heath of Dudley; cousins, Matthew Davis of Goldsboro, Bryan and Veronica Davis of Goldsboro, Keri Heath of Dudley and Lori Howington of Goldsboro.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Bethel Church, 2308 N. William S., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

The family is being served by Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Crematory of Goldsboro and online condolences may be sent through www.shumate-faulk.com.

 

MARY A. EDWARDS

Mary Alice Windham Edwards, 65, of Smithfield, died Monday, August 20, after a period of failing health.

Born September 6, 1941, in Johnston County, Mrs. Edwards was a daughter of the late Aaron Rufus and Vera Godwin Windham. She was the widow of Charles "Smokey" Edwards.

The funeral was held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 21 at Underwood Funeral Home in Smithfield. The Rev. Joe Baker officiated. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 22 in Sunset Memorial Park.

Surviving are her husband, Dennis Barbour of Smithfield; three daughters, Sally Edwards Capps, Reba Leigh Edwards, and Carla Garner, all of Smithfield; two brothers, James Rufus Windham of Cleveland and Bobby Ray Windham of Brogden; and a sister, Betty Broughton of Four Oaks.
