Look for Eagles to improve as year rolls on
By Barry Merrill

22 August 2007 — Rosewood Coach Bobby Britt as a first year coach is depending on his coaching staff for a lot of information. They have told him that North Johnston, Ayden-Grifton and North Duplin will likely be the three teams that will vie for the conference title.
Still, they have told him that they are not looking for a dominant team, and every team is likely to find a challenge in the conference race. “I don’t know how easy it will be for any team to win this season,” he said Sunday.
Rosewood’s fortunes may begin to turn around this week. After facing a tough Goldsboro squad, a young Southside squad will come in. Rosewood’s depth and experience in key places may come to the surface.

Growing comfortable with the changes is critical to the Eagles. “We’ve got to continue getting better every week.”
As his offense improves, look for Rosewood to be more of a ball control team.
The coach is not one to get discouraged with early season frustrations. While at Fike High School as an assistant coach, the team started one year losing their first four games. They ended the year in the state championships.
“We’ve got some good athletes,” he assessed. “We should make the state playoffs.”
And as Fike reminded him, once you get on a roll at the end of the year, who knows how far you can go.
