Princeton's defense strong in 14-0 loss to N. Moore

By Barry Merrill
NL Publisher

29 August 2007 — The Bulldog defense did all they could to earn the home crowd a win, and the offense had their chances, but in the end, North Moore came away with the win, 14-0.

Princeton had an early scoring chance in the first quarter, but four shots at the Mustangs deep in their territory ended on a completed fourth down pass but the receiver was down well short of the end zone.

In the second quarter, a fourth down punt was blocked and a Mustang recovered in the end zone to put North Moore on the scoreboard.

Midway through the quarter, the Mustangs got their one big offensive play, as a receiver got loose in the secondary and scored on a 37-yard pass.

The Princeton offense has failed to put up any points this year, but broke some good runs. Michael Radford again led the Princeton running game with 63 yards on 17 attempts. Will Gainey added 16 yards on five runs.

The offense had not been able to mount the consistency they need to this point, but Coach Williamson was optimistic Sunday.
“We’ve got the running game going pretty good, and we did well on pass protection at times.”

Early on the passing game struggled, with quarterback Dylan Myers missing on his first three attempts, and one of those hurried throws was the critical interception. He ended the game hitting on five of his last six passing attempts. Four of those successful passes went to sophomore Dillon Daughtry who ended the night with 57 yards, including one for 20 and one for 28 yards.

The Bulldog defense played well. Will Gainey played his first game at nose tackle and played strong in that slot, along with John Posey, Daniel Gurley, Patrick Jacobs and Cameron White.

The Bulldogs yielded just 90 yards on 38 running attempts, but only one of those went for big yards, 30 of them. Eleven times the Dawg defense stopped the attempt behind the line of scrimmage.

Princeton’s defense was equally strong against North Moore’s passing attack. The Mustangs completed just three of eight passes, and if you take out the 37 yard TD completion, they netted just 12 yards the rest of the night through the air.

Both teams lost two fumbles.

The Bulldogs travel to Dixon Friday, who had their troubles this past Friday, falling to Union, 49-6.

Coach Williamson said they will run a double tight end offense, running out of the I backfield some.

On defense they run a four man front.
