Johnston Community offers career courses8 August 2007 — Are you looking for a new job? Johnston Community College has classes that can help you! In partnership with the JobLink Career Centers, JCC is offering the following job-related courses this fall. The classes are free to anyone who is unemployed, received notice of pending layoff, working and eligible for Federal Earned Income Tax Credit (FEIT), or working and earn wages at or below two hundred percent (200%) of the federal poverty guidelines. For further information on any of the courses or to register, call 919-209-2592. Effective Strategies for Your Job Search This 3-hour workshop will provide tips on topics critical for job seekers including résumé writing, creating effective cover letters, interviewing skills, and handling difficult information. Come learn what you need to know to make your résumé speak to employers. You will be on your way to a new career! This course is offered twice a month on the second Wednesday of each month (Aug. 8, Sept. 12, Oct. 10, Nov. 14, Dec. 12) at the JobLink Career Center at Clayton Corners in Clayton and on the third Wednesday of each month (Aug. 15, Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 21, Dec. 19) on the JCC main campus in Smithfield. The sessions are from 1-4 p.m. Effective Résumé Writing This 3-hour workshop will be your opportunity to create a résumé! A knowledgeable instructor will guide you through the development of a résumé that will help you get the attention of employers. Cover letters and reference lists will be created as time allows. Bring your experience and education history and reference contact information. You will be on your way to a new career! This course is offered twice a month on the first Wednesday of each month, Sept. 5, Oct. 3, Nov. 7, or Dec. 5, on the main campus in Smithfield and during the third week of each month on Aug. 16, Sept. 18, Oct. 16, Nov. 12 at the Clayton campus. The sessions are from 1-4 p.m., 2-5 p.m., or 6-9 p.m. Find Your Perfect Job! Find Your Perfect Job, a 9-hour employability seminar, is designed for you. It will include: • Ways to identify your strengths in the workplace This class will be held August 20 and 27, and September 10, 2007 from 6-9 p.m. at the Johnston County Workforce Development Center near Clayton. Class will not meet on Monday, September 3. If you are not eligible for the tuition waiver described above, the registration fee is $55.00. There is no book fee. The Career that is Right for You! Not sure what you want to be when you grow up? Are you looking for a career that will make your heart sing? This class is just for you. The Career that is Right for You will help you assess your interests, aptitude, and readiness for employment or education. It will focus on personal development, career exploration, goal setting, and will help you develop a written plan of action. This 4-hour class is offered this fall on the following Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: August 15, September 19, October 17, November 21, and December 19. If you are not eligible for the tuition waiver described above, the registration fee is $55.00. There is no book fee. The class will be held on the main campus of JCC in Smithfield in the Elsee Building, room 115.
