Princeton Board cleans up eyesore

8 August 2007 — The Princeton Town Board voted to go ahead with removal of a burned out mobile home after months of delays in response to pleas by the mobile home owner.

Thomas Hodges, who owned and had rented out the home, appeared before the town board last month and said he had tried several times to contract to have the home removed, and asked for another month to get it taken down. The board reluctantly agreed, with the condition if it was not taken down by the August meeting, the board would accept a bid they had already solicited for the work.

That contract would be assessed to the property owner, but Mr. Hodges wanted to take responsibility for the removal, even though he was not the property owner. He pled that he could not afford the amount of the bid.

Commissioner Walter Martin offered Monday night that even though the Princeton Area Men’s Club, which he is a member of, had offered to provide the labor to Mr. Hodges, he was not able to bring in equipment they would need to use to do the work.

He asked that the board go forward with accepting the bid.

The board voted unanimously, with Commissioner Eddie Haddock abstaining, to accept the bid. Mr. Haddock’s family firm, Haddock Enterprises, was the low bidder for the work.
