Barbecue supper
Pine Level Pentecostal Holiness Church will hold a barbecue chicken supper on Saturday, September 8 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Plates will cost $6 and will be available for eating in or taking out. The dinner is sponsored by the women’s, men’s, and senior adult ministries.
sheriff's report
A Princeton man was arrested on felony larceny charges on August 28.
James Thomas Wiggs, 26, was placed in Johnston County Jail under $40,000 bond after he was charged with the theft of a computer and monitor. Kenneth Price of Jerry Road in Selma made the complaint.
Ormond's Furniture of Highway 70 in Princeton reported a breaking and entering and larceny. Two TVs valued at $700 total, two cell phones, and $15 in cash plus a counterfeit $20 were reportedly stolen. $500 damage was done to a glass door.
Daniel Espinosa, 17, of Ivy Lane, Pikeville, was stopped on Rains Mill Road at 8:38 p.m. on August 29 during a routine traffic stop. He was reportedly found in possession of 6.5 grams of marijuana.
Johnston County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call in regards to Jerry Dean, 61, of Laura Avenue, Princeton on a drug overdose on August 27 at 10:26 a.m.
Democrat Executive Committee meeting
The Executive Committee of the Johnston County Democratic Party will meet at the Johnston County Courthouse in Smithfield, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, in Courtroom # 1.
The agenda will include a review of the Strategic Plan and discussion of our position on the upcoming ballot questions of a possible transfer tax and/or sales tax option for Johnston County voters.
All party, auxiliary and precinct officers and all interested Democrats are encouraged to attend. For further information, contact the JCDP at 550-4186.
Boy Scout membership drive
Representatives from local Boy Scout units will be visiting Johnston County schools during September and October to give boys an opportunity to sign up for Scouting. Parents are invited to attend special sign-up meetings at local schools. Princeton Elementary School will hold a meeting on September 11 at 7 p.m. For more information, please visit www.bsanc.org.
ABWA meeting
The Johnston Charter Chapter American Business Women’s Association will meet Monday night, September 10 at the Greater Smithfield Selma Chamber of Commerce building on Industrial Park Drive in Smithfield.
Networking begins at 6:30 p.m., with dinner and meeting to follow at 7 p.m.
Rev. Mary H. Banner, Interim Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield will present the program “Commitment—It starts with your heart." Rev. Banner has been the Interim Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield since January 2006. Prior to her work in Smithfield, she was the Director of Presbyterian Urban Ministry in Durham for 18 years. During that time, she supervised a number of Duke Divinity School field education interns, having completed her Master of Divinity degree there as well. She also did interim work in two Durham Presbyterian churches. In 2001 Mary and her husband, Dan, moved to the Cincinnati area to be closer to her mother before her death. Mary completed two interim pastorates during her time in Ohio. She did her undergraduate work at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She has two grown sons.
