Princeton board on parking problems, paving
19 September 2007 — A former Princeton Town Board member appeared before that board last Monday night to ask their help restricting parking in front of his home.
Chris Watson, who lives on Bartholomew Drive, came to complain that people were parking in front of his house during athletic events. “They are parking in my yard, stealing apples, and blocking my second driveway,” he reported.
He related that there had been signs prohibiting public parking on the east side of Bartholomew Dr., but those signs had not been maintained. With construction taking some of the existing back parking lot, students are now parking on Bartholomew Dr. during the school day, and that night, those attending a football game at the school were parking in front of his house.
The board agreed to look into resurrecting signs prohibiting public parking on the residential side of the street and Police Chief Eddie Lewis left the meeting to check into the parking abuse at his home.
Paving contracts were awarded for about a half mile of town streets last week, but some board members wanted to know when more could be done.
The Princeton Town Board awarded a $54,661 bid to SELCO Construction on the recommendation of Commissioner Eddie Haddock.
The streets to be included are: S. James St. from W. Edwards to W. Second; W. First St. from John St. to Pine St.; and Second St. from Pine St. to Pierce St., excluding three intersections that will be paved later.
Commissioner Billy Sutton asked if other areas could be added to this work.
Mr. Haddock said they were planning to pave Mercer St., but wanted to wait until the recent fill settled, as prematurely paving would create future problems. They plan to pave there in the spring. Some other areas may be considered at that time.
