Quarry offers scenic view

26 September 2007 — Princeton mayor Don Rains stands alongside the bank of the old abandoned rock quarry just north of Princeton. The county plans to use the old quarry for a reservoir for a water treatment facility, to supply future water needs in the county, but it could also be used for recreation.


 

police report

Two area residents were charged by Princeton Police after routine traffic stops.

Ronneaka George, 24, of W. First St. was stopped on Pine St. last Tuesday at 9:38 a.m. and charged with driving while license revoked. Bond was set at $1,000.

Johnny Holloman, 46, of Hickory Crossroads Rd., Kenly, was cited for going 53 in a 35 mph zone on Holt’s Pond Road.


sheriff's report

A missing teen was reported to Johnston County Sheriff’s deputies over the weekend.

Ronald Austin of Ruffin Road reported Friday at 4:19 that Trent Austin, 16, was missing. He is described as 6’ tall, 165 lbs., a white male with red hair and brown eyes.

Thomas Bugbee of Bizzell-Braswell Road reported Saturday at 11:31 a.m. that two windows were broken out on the Time-Warner Cable van that was parked at his house.

Lori Edwards of Grabtown Road called deputies to report that her daughter found the back door of her home open when she came in from school Thursday afternoon. Nothing was reported stolen at that time.

Clayton lining up parade

The Clayton Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking participants for the 2007 Clayton Christmas Parade, scheduled for Saturday, December 8th, at 3 p.m. in downtown Clayton.

Area businesses, churches, schools, and civic and other community organizations are welcome to participate in the parade. Groups may march along the parade route or enter a vehicle in the parade. Float entry fees are $60 for Pageant Queens and Kings and non-profit organizations, $70 for Clayton Area Chamber Members and $110 for Non-Chamber Members. Churches may enter a vehicle at no charge.

Parade sponsorships also are available for $200 (Gold) and $100 (Silver). Sponsorships allow the Chamber to include area marching bands and groups such as the Sudan Clowns, Amran ragtops and others in the parade.

The deadline to register for the parade is November 21. For more information, contact the Chamber office at 553-6352 or send an e-mail to kimm@claytonchamber.com.

JCC auditions

Auditions for the Johnston Community College Country Music Showcase will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13 in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium. The JCC Country Music Showcase, held bimonthly in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium on the campus of Johnston Community College in Smithfield, provides an opportunity for regional talent to perform with a live band in a professional setting.  

Auditions are for solo, duet, trio or quartet vocal talent, dancers and solo instrumentalists. Performers may audition only once, either as an individual or part of a group. Performers must provide one song with a maximum time of two minutes and must provide their own pre-taped music or accompaniment. Microphones, stands, stage monitor and electrical tie-ins will be provided.

The auditions will begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 and pre-registration is required. To pre-register, contact Debbie Elam at 919-209-2180 for an application. There is a $25 registration fee and registration must be post marked no later than Oct. 5.
