Eagle drive not enough to stall Midway
26 September 2007 — Rosewood had some chances at Midway Friday night, but the host Raiders made some big plays when they needed them to down the Eagles, 28-6.

The Eagles had a chance to take the early advantage, as Midway fumbled away the opening kickoff, but the Raider defense stalled the Eagle offense on downs.
In a back and forth first quarter, Midway had a drive going, but Stephen Ash got a deflection on a pass, and Chris Hare got the interception to end it.
Midway had a string of penalties on an ensuing possession that drove them back to their own one yard line. The keyed up Rosewood defense was sucked in by a fake sweep, and the Raider offense hit on a pass behind the defense that went for a 99-yard touchdown.
After a second Midway TD, Rosewood put together an impressive drive in the second quarter. That culminated with a four-yard pass from QB Sean Cornman to tight end Holt Rains for the Rosewood touchdown. The point after failed, but Rosewood was only down 14-6 at the half.

Midway made up for losing the opening kickoff by grabbing a muffed kickoff when it hit between the Rosewood up men and the deep receivers. The Eagle defense summoned a strong effort, forcing a fourth down play, and seemingly had the Midway runner trapped in the backfield for a loss, but couldn’t wrap him up. The Raiders got in to go up 20-6.
Midway also trapped Rosewood for a safety to make it 22-6, but Rosewood Coach Bobby Britt felt good about their chances, only down two scores.
Midway nailed up the win with a late touchdown.
“We made too many mistakes playing a good football team,” Coach Britt said Sunday. “You’re not going to win.”
He complimented the play of two receivers, Stephen McIntyre and Holt Rains for making some big catches. McIntyre finished the night with two catches for 26 yards, and Rains had four catches for 35 yards. He also cited Eric Martel and Josh Holmes for running the ball hard. They earned 36 and 32 yards respectively, with each getting seven carries.
Cornman hit on ten of 17 passes, good for 111 yards and a touchdown, surrendering a single interception.
On defense, he complimented the play of Robert Franks and Marcus Daniels on the front line. In addition to Hare’s interception, Scott Pate also had a big interception.
He said Eric Jones and Brian Jones played sound fundamental football and did a good job keeping the running game contained.
Jones Senior comes to Rosewood Friday night. The Trojans run a straight T, will run out of the I, and have a spread package. Defensively they like to load up the box and dare you to pass. Coach Britt says they are very athletic.
They stand at 1-4 on the season.
After the loss Friday, Rosewood is 2-3.
