Princeton votes to condemn properties
10 October 2007 —The Princeton Town Board voted last week to take further action against some property owners who have not cleaned up their properties.
They voted for the town attorney to take legal action to clear the property at 427 S. Pine St. under condemnation proceedings.
They also voted to declare the property at 107 E. Railroad St. a public nuisance, under town statutes.
After Commissioner Walter Martin’s urging last month, the board voted to increase the misdemeanor fines for habitual public nuisance property owners.
Public nuisances refers to properties with trash and overgrown weeds that promote rodents.
If a property owner is charged under the ordinance, in addition to the costs of cleaning up the property, he will face a fine of $50. If he is charged a second time in one year, the fine increases to $300. For the third and all subsequent charges, they will carry a fine of $500.
