Effective Strategies for Your Job Search
Are you looking for a job? Johnston Community College has classes that can help you! In partnership with the JobLink Career Centers, JCC is offering Effective Strategies for Your Job Search. This 3-hour workshop will provide tips on topics critical for job seekers including résumé writing, creating effective cover letters, interviewing skills, and handling difficult information. Come learn what you need to know to make your résumé speak to employers. You will be on your way to a new career!!
This course is offered twice a month on the second Wednesday of each month (today, Nov. 14, Dec. 12) at the JobLink Career Center at Clayton Corners in Clayton and on the third Wednesday of each month (Oct. 17, Nov. 21, Dec. 19) on the JCC main campus in Smithfield. The sessions are from 1-4 pm.
This course is FREE for individuals who meet the following criteria:
- unemployed;
- received notice of pending layoff;
- working and eligible for Federal Earned Income Tax Credit (FEIT); or
- working and earn wages at or below two hundred percent (200%) of the federal poverty guidelines.

Ex-Offender Workshop
Do you have a criminal history? Is your past hindering you from getting a job? If you answer yes to these questions, then this class is for you. Work with an experienced ex-offender instructor to gain valuable information to improve your job seeking skills. Learn how to complete an effective resume, write an eye catching cover letter, create follow-up letters and practice what to say during an interview. Discuss how to approach the difficult information in your life. Gain the confidence you need to succeed in your job search!
This 3-hour class is offered this fall on the following Tuesdays from 5:30pm – 8:30pm: October 16, November 20, and December 18.
This course is FREE for individuals who meet the following criteria:
- unemployed;
- received notice of pending layoff;
- working and eligible for Federal Earned Income Tax Credit (FEIT); or
- working and earn wages at or below two hundred percent (200%) of the federal poverty guidelines.
If you are not eligible for the tuition waiver described above, the registration fee is $50.00. There is no book fee. The class will be held on the main campus of JCC in Smithfield in the Elsee Building, room 115. For more information, or to register, call 919-209-2592.
Find Your Perfect Job!
Are you looking for a job or a career? Find Your Perfect Job, a 9-hour employability seminar, is designed for you. It will include:
- Ways to identify your strengths in the workplace
- Job Resource Tips
- Guidelines for Résumé Preparation
- Job Interview Guidelines
- Communication Skills
- Making a Good First Impression
- How to Deal with Negative Information
This class will be held on Monday evenings, October 22 - November 5, 2007 from 6-9 pm at the Johnston County Workforce Development Center near Clayton.
This course is FREE for individuals who meet the following criteria:
- unemployed;
- received notice of pending layoff;
- working and eligible for Federal Earned Income Tax Credit (FEIT); or
- working and earn wages at or below two hundred percent (200%) of the federal poverty guidelines.
