No more shelter for Princeton?10 October 2007 — Princeton wants to get out of the business of housing stray animals after their kennel failed state inspection again. Police Chief Eddie Lewis reported to the town board at last week’s meeting that recent changes made to the town’s kennel did not lead to approval, as he had hoped. Rather than going through what he sees as expensive modifications to their facility, he suggested the town get out of the animal control business and turn that over to the county. Some town board members were concerned that the problems with stray pets would increase, and were not too sure about the chief’s assertion that the county would be compelled to take over stray animal enforcement from the town. The board agreed to follow the policy of other county towns and immediately transport any trapped animals to Smithfield to the county, rather than trying to house them until the county came to pick them up.
