Charity golf tournament planned
03 October 2007 — The 2007 Neal Lancaster-Four Oaks Bank Charity Golf Classic will be held October 12 at the Country Club of Johnston County in Smithfield. Now in its 13th year, the annual superball tournament will benefit the scholarship program and support academic enrichment and program enhancement at Johnston Community College.
In addition to the golf tournament, players and guests are invited to a Reception & Raffle to be held on Thursday evening, October 11 at the Country Club of Johnston County in Smithfield. This program annually serves as a kick-off celebration for the golf tournament and includes food, beverages, auction items and raffle items. Tickets for this event are included in the various Sponsorships, Foursomes and Individual packages. Individual tickets are also available.
The Golf Classic benefits the Johnston Community College Foundation which provides scholarships and other support for the college.
The Neal Lancaster – Four Oaks Bank Charity Golf Classic is named after Neal Lancaster, a PGA touring pro from Smithfield. Lancaster, who won a PGA title in 1994, and fellow PGA pro Clarence Rose are scheduled to be present at the auction and tournament.
The tournament is also named after Four Oaks Bank & Trust, which continues as the major corporate sponsor of the event. In addition, Deacon Jones Autopark is another major sponsor which underwrites a portion of the costs.
Sponsorships are available at three different levels. The Silver Level sponsorship at $1,250 includes recognition and a complimentary full Golf Foursome package. In addition, Silver Sponsorship includes a $500 named annual scholarship to be awarded in January 2008 in the chosen name.
The Blue Level sponsorship at $750 includes recognition and a complimentary full Golf Foursome package. And the Lancaster Hole Sponsorship includes prominent golf hole tee sign and complimentary tickets to the Reception & Raffle.
Golf packages are available for both teams and individual. A Golf Foursome is available for $500 which includes green fees and play for four, golf carts, BBQ lunch, drink tickets and gift packages, along with 8 tickets to the Reception & Raffle. Golf Single Play is available for $125.
For the first time, the golf tournament will have both a morning and an afternoon round. Players may select either an 8:30 AM or 1:30 PM tee time. While traditionally held in early November, the outing was moved to mid-October to accommodate two tee times and faster team play. There will be only 22 foursomes in the morning and 22 in the afternoon.
In addition to 8 Team Flight Awards, individual cash awards will be presented to both male and female golfers for both AM and PM rounds for longest drive and closest-to-the-pin. There will also be hole-in-one contests sponsored by Deacon Jones Autopark. Each foursome will be placed into one of four flights according to handicaps provided.
Dr. Donald Reichard, President of Johnston Community College, praised the work of the Foundation in again holding the Clarity Golf Classic. “The Foundation and our golf committee are to be congratulated on planning another wonderful tournament. We are delighted that this event will be able to generate significant donations for scholarships for our students.”
The Johnston Community College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization governed by a volunteer 40-member Board of Directors to receive and manage gift funds to the College. The Foundation celebrates its 25th Anniversary in 2007 and has shared assets of over $4 million. For fall 2007, the Foundation generated over 220 scholarships for students at the College. All revenues from the Charity Golf Classic are directed to scholarships and other Foundation projects.
