17 October 2007 — A 25-year old Princeton woman was struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking across US Hwy. 70 Sunday night, sustaining possibly fatal injuries.
Princeton Police have secured the apparent vehicle in lockup, and have called in SBI lab people to gather evidence to try to determine who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Dayna Wiggs, 25, of Rosewood Road was struck about 7:15 p.m. near the intersection with Edwards Road/Pearl Street. The impact threw her eighty feet down the highway.
She was walking with a boyfriend across the road. It’s not clear if she was walking from or to the Comco station. He pulled her off the road after the accident.
The driver of the van, according to a number of witnesses, stopped after the incident, turned on his emergency flashers, and then drove off.
Wiggs, who has a four-year-old son, has been transported to Chapel Hill.
Johnston County Sheriff’s deputies got a call at 8:52 p.m. Sunday evening from a Princeton-Kenly Road resident who said he found the van parked at his home. The home is 6 miles from Princeton.
Princeton Police questioned the man who reported finding the van. He is not the registered owner of the van, but police are continuing to question him about the circumstances.
Damage to the van and initial examination indicate it was the vehicle in the accident.
Police are seeking information on the whereabouts of the owner of the van. The van is registered to Bela Marcel Mendoza, a 5’8” Hispanic male, with the last known address of 1205 N. Pollock St., Selma. Please call Princeton Police if you have any information, at (919) 936-5131.
