17 October 2007 — Six past Rosewood sports stars were inducted to the Hall of Fame Friday night.


 

B&E arrests

Two Princeton residents were arrested after break-ins at an area subdivision.

Teresa Westbrook Boyd, 42, of 4711 Massey Holt Road, Princeton, and Brandon Michael Boyd, 45, of 107 Linda Street, Princeton, were arrested following an investigation into the breaking and entering and larceny at a home under construction in the Goose Creek subdivision. They were charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, and possession of stolen goods.

Juvenile petitions will be sought against a nine-year old after he was allegedly caught shoplifting candy at the Piggly Wiggly store Saturday.

This is not the first time the youngster has been in trouble according to Princeton Police.

Two women had their license seized after charges of driving while license revoked.

Bernietric Ellis, 31, of Selma had her license seized Oct. 3.

Sonia Frasier, 35, of W. First St. was also stopped and charged for 54 in a 35 on Holt’s Pond Road near New Ballpark Road on Saturday at 5:44 p.m.


Counterfeit bills in Princeton

Counterfeit bills have turned up in Princeton in recent weeks.

A counterfeit $10 bill was reported by the Princeton Handy Mart last week. The back side of the bill was not a good printing job.

A counterfeit $20 was also found on the floor in the Piggly Wiggly recently.


Head Start taking applications

Johnston-Lee Head Start is now accepting applications for four year olds in Johnston and Lee Counties for the 2007-08 school year. Head Start is also available to children with special needs. To enroll your child in Head Start, please bring the following: birth certificate, shot record/immunization record, Medicaid card, a current physical, social security cards for all family members, proof of income for 2006 (1040 tax form, W-2 form, income verification statement form, TANF, SSI, Social Security, etc), and 3 active telephone numbers. In Johnston County, call for an appointment: 919-934-2145 ext. 22 or 40. The office location is 1102 Massey Street, Smithfield.


Stancil recognized

Jennifer Ernisse Stancil, the executive director of the Girls, Math & Science Partnership, has been named one of five emerging leaders in Pittsburgh for her commitment to building better communities for women. Honored by the Junior League of Pittsburgh during its 85th Anniversary, an awards ceremony will be held on October 14.

She is the daughter-in-law of Ann Stancil of Princeton.

In March of 2006 Jennifer Ernisse Stancil was named the new Director of the Girls, Math & Science Partnership, now a project of Carnegie Science Center.

Birth announced

Mitch and Kim LeQuire, Noah and Sam of Worley Rd., Princeton, announce the birth of their son and brother, Thomas Daniel LeQuire on Aug. 3, 2007 at Johnston Memorial Hospital’s Women’s Pavilion. Grandparents are Danny and Susie Kornegay of Princeton; Jim and Ruby LeQuire of Brevard; great-grandparents are Frank Kornegay of Princeton; Edna Starling of Princeton; Donald and Vernell Colvard of Robbinsville.


Local scams

Princeton Police Chief Eddie Lewis reports that some Princeton area residents are falling for some of the scams on the Internet.

Some of the latest ploys include Wal-Mart and calling a phone number in Spain.

One involved a job offer, and many include lotteries.

He warns everyone not to give out their back account numbers over the phone to anyone.

“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,” he counsels.


Stuff-A-Stocking program

The Salvation Army is preparing for their Christmas program again this year. Stuff-a-Stockings (24-inch red mesh stockings) will be ready for pickup on October 24 at the Salvation Army building, 610 N. William Street, Goldsboro. Any group or organization may fill them.

Each year, the Salvation Army distributes over 1,500 stockings to needy children. Please return the filled stocking to the Salvation Army no later than December 5.


Festival of Trees

Keep Johnston County Beautiful, Inc., a non-profit organization, is planning its fourth annual “Festival of Trees” to be held November 29 – December 9, 2007 at the Johnston Medical Mall in Smithfield.  This year’s theme is “A Johnston County Christmas” where approximately 60 decorated NC grown Fraser firs will be on display for the public to enjoy at no charge.   Entertainment is scheduled for the 2007 Festival of Trees at various times throughout the week.  If you our your group would like to perform in this year’s Festival of Trees, please contact Mary Britt at 934-6276 or email her at MWBritt@aol.com no later than October 31, 2007.  Church choirs, youth choruses, school bands, soloists, duets, and groups are welcome to perform.  


Clayton lining up parade

The Clayton Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking participants for the 2007 Clayton Christmas Parade, scheduled for Saturday, December 8th, at 3 p.m. in downtown Clayton.

Area businesses, churches, schools, and civic and other community organizations are welcome to participate in the parade. Groups may march along the parade route or enter a vehicle in the parade. Float entry fees are $60 for Pageant Queens and Kings and non-profit organizations, $70 for Clayton Area Chamber Members and $110 for Non-Chamber Members. Churches may enter a vehicle at no charge.

Parade sponsorships also are available for $200 (Gold) and $100 (Silver). Sponsorships allow the Chamber to include area marching bands and groups such as the Sudan Clowns, Amran ragtops and others in the parade.
