RHS tromps Gators for Homecoming
24 October 2007 — A winless Spring Creek squad came out fired up Monday night at Rosewood, and the Gators had the Eagles on their heels for much of the first half. Toward the middle of the second quarter, the Eagles regained their confidence and Rosewood rolled to a 30-6 win.

“They came out in a different offense than we had seen,” Rosewood Coach Bobby Britt commented after the game. “Our defense started thinking rather than reacting.”
The Gators looked impressive as they put six points up with less than three minutes gone off the clock.
Spring Creek continued to move the ball effectively against the Eagle defense, but Rosewood kept SC out of the end zone.
The defensive struggles seemed to affect the offense, as Rosewood struggled to put things together on the other side of the ball as the confident Gators gummed up the works.
In the middle of the second quarter the Eagles finally got things together, and quarterback Sean Cornman capped the drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Allen. On a key play earlier in the drive, he was hit for an apparent sack earlier in the drive, but kept pushing and turned the play into a gain, which got 15 more yards for face mask tackling.
The Eagles put together another drive late in the quarter, and as he has done before, Cornman cashed the opportunity, calling his own number for a three-yard run around right end to put the Eagles up by eight at the half, 14-6.
The physical and penalty-plagued contest got ugly early as RHS’ Johnny Artis was ejected in the first quarter, and in the second half, both teams got double fouls for unsportsmanlike contest on another play.
Holt Rains added to the Rosewood margin with a 15-yard completion for the third Eagle TD, holding on to a pass on his hip.
Eric Martel broke off a 20 yard run for the final Rosewood touchdown about a minute and a half later.
In the fourth quarter, Robert Franks blocked a Spring Creek punt. That led to a 35 yard Cameron Lowe field goal early in the fourth quarter. Lowe missed another attempt later in the quarter.
After the game, Coach Britt was praising Cornman’s play. “It was a great individual effort. Our kids rallied around that effort.” He also noted how Cornman is feeling better in the pocket, gaining confidence, and making good decisions.
He emphasized how important it was for the Eagles to have a balanced attack. “If we get to 80% one way or the other, we aren’t going to be successful. We need about 60% running.”
Coach Britt also praised the play of Jordan Adams on the offensive line, and his center, Stephen Bostic.
Rosewood has their biggest challenge of the season ahead, as they travel to undefeated North Duplin Friday.
Coach Britt was glad to get his first conference win under his belt Friday night. “We set a goal of winning two of our last three games in order to get playoff eligible. We got the first one.”
