Grudge match ends in Princeton defeat, 39-13

7 November 2007 — After Rosewood had taken the opening kickoff and scored, Princeton answered right back on their first play from scrimmage, a 65-yard run by Kevin Foy around right end. Then Cameron White really gave the Dawgs a momentum boost, grabbing a tipped pass to give Princeton excellent field position and a chance to take the lead still early in the first quarter.

The Rosewood defense rose up to deny the Dawgs on that drive, and dominated Princeton the rest of the way in a 39-13 win.
The win extended the streak to 22 straight over their neighbors.
Rosewood began the game with a solid drive, but Josh Holmes put the first points up with a sudden burst past the Princeton defense, a 30 yard run.
Then came Foy’s heroics to tie the game at 7 apiece.

“Princeton lined up in a formation we haven’t seen before, and they out-flanked us on that play,” said Coach Bobby Britt Monday. “After that play, we corrected and every time they lined up in that, we were ready.”
After the Eagle defense stopped Princeton after the interception, RHS signal-caller Sean Cornman firmly put the momentum back on the Eagle side of the ball, breaking an exciting 56 yard run down to the Princeton 14.

With 2:35 left in the first quarter, he called his own number again for a two yard score. The extra point was wide right, but Rosewood was on top, 13-7.
Rosewood put together another drive in the second quarter, and Cornman again got the TD, scoring on another two yard run.
Rosewood continued to move the ball well, and with 4:29 left in the quarter, they capped another drive, this time with Cornman hitting Holt Rains on a two yard pass. He had a big reception to set up the TD moments before. A third try for two points failed, leaving RHS ahead, 25-7.

Rosewood successfully got an on-sides kick on the ensuing kick-off, but surrendered a pass interception. Robert Franks picked off a Princeton aerial a few plays later, but Rosewood could not convert the opportunity before the half ended.
Rosewood tried another on-sides kick to start the second half, but this one failed to go ten yards, and Princeton took over on the Rosewood 48.
The break seemed to stoke the Princeton fire, as Foy hit the line hard for gains of six, 14 and seven, mixed in with a Will Gainey run of nine to give Princeton a first down at the Eagle 13. Rosewood was then penalized for an offsides, and Foy added a two-yard run to get it down to the six.
A holding penalty and the Rosewood defense hit Foy behind the line for a five yard loss and that pushed Princeton too far out. A fourth down pass fell incomplete.
At the end of the quarter, a short punt set Princeton up again in Rosewood territory, and Gainey ripped off an eleven-yard gainer, and Benton Myers got loose for a ten-yard run to push the ball down to the Rosewood 28.
Again the Rosewood defense rose up to deny the Dawgs any more ground, and the momentum carried over to the RHS offense. Cornman quickly hit Taylor Allen on a 58-yard scoring play with less than a minute gone in the fourth quarter.
Foy had another 32 yard run, but two personal fouls halted the Princeton drive.
Cody Richards added a final Rosewood three-yard touchdown with 9:01 left in the fourth quarter.
Kwame Corprew had a 48-yard run, but again, Princeton penalties and turnovers hurt the Dawgs.
The final Princeton score came in the final minute after a Rosewood punt squirted off the side of the foot of the punter, and T.J. Wilson recovered the ball in the end zone.
Monday Coach Russell Williamson was disappointed in how his team had hurt themselves with penalties and turnovers.
Coach Britt was pleased with how his team seized the momentum early in the game, and held after the Bulldogs threatened early in the first quarter.
