Johnston, Wake FWB Churches contribute to Mount Olive College

14 November 2007 — Members representing Free Will Baptist churches in Johnston and Wake Counties generated $56,282.46 in gifts to Mount Olive College, the denomination’s private, Christian liberal arts institution.

Three hundred and six people attended the Annual College Dinner at Everett Chapel FWB Church. Churches presented their gifts to the College at the dinner. Of those giving, 225 were designated as Bridge Builders for contributing a gift of $100 or more.

Since the program began in 1963, the FWB churches in Johnston and Wake Counties have raised more than $1,249,300 through the College dinners.

The Convention of Original Free Will Baptists established Mount Olive College in 1951 as one of its ministries and has given strong support throughout its 56-year history.

Mr. Keenan Hinnant of Kenly, co-chair; Mrs. Dee Farmer of Clayton, co-chair; the Reverend Frank Grubbs of Smithfield, the Reverend Harold Swinson of Kenly and Mrs. Karen Woodard of Princeton formed the steering committee for the dinner.

Two churches received special recognition at the dinner. Smithfield First FWB Church was recognized for giving the largest contribution and for giving the most per capita.  Rains Crossroads FWB Church was recognized for having the most high school students in attendance.

Jean F. Ackiss, director of church support, coordinated the event and presided over the program.  “Every time you give to Mount Olive College, you are making an investment in the lives of the students we serve,” she said.

“Free Will Baptists are helping to make a difference in the lives of more than 5,000 students at Mount Olive College this year.  Through the years, MOC has transformed itself in many ways, one thing that has never changed, and never will, is the College’s commitment to helping students transform themselves, and achieve goals that might have seemed unreachable.  Mount Olive College provides students a foundation for learning and for living,” Dr. Byrd says.
