28 November 2007 — Kenneth Starling was recognized Sunday afternoon for his years of service to the Princeton Fire Department.


Larceny arrest made

A Rosewood larceny case has resulted in the arrest of a Goldsboro man.

Jeffrey Nolan Keen, 43, of 219 Nottingham Drive, Goldsboro, was arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with larceny, possession of stolen property, and assault, and placed under $7000 secured bond.

Keen was involved in a larceny from Hales Rentals in Rosewood. The victim confronted Keen as he was attempting to sell the stolen property at N.C. Salvage, and was assaulted by Keen. Felony charges are also pending against Keen for another larceny.


Princeton Christmas parade

Princeton's Christmas parade will be held Saturday, December 1 at 1 p.m. with lineup at noon in front of the school. Princeton's Women's Improvement Club will be at the Community Building selling hot dogs, soup, drinks, coffee, and baked goods, and crafters will have items for sale in the back room. If you would like to put an entry in the parade, please call Jean Haddock at 936-8581 (day) or 936-3571 (night).

The Princeton HS Band will perform in the following holiday parades:
Dec. 1 - Princeton Christmas Parade
Dec. 6 - Kenly Christmas parade
Dec. 7 - O'Berry/Cherry Hospital Christmas Parade
Dec. 9 - Pine Level Christmas Parade

The Princeton Chorus Concert is on Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.. The following groups will perform: Third Grade classes, Middle School Chorus, and High School Chorus.

The Princeton Band Concert is on Dec. 18 at 7:00 p.m. The 6th, 7th, 8th, and High School Bands will perform.


Annual reading

The Goldsboro Writers Group will sponsor the annual Open Reading at 7 p.m. on Wed., December 3 at the Art Center on the corner of Ash Street and Spence Avenue. Area writers are invited to bring two poems or one short prose piece of no more than two pages to read. Refreshments will follow the reading. For more information, call Margaret Baddour at Wayne Community College at 735-5152, ext.760.


Stuff-A-Stocking program

The Salvation Army is preparing for their Christmas program again this year. Stuff-a-Stockings (24-inch red mesh stockings) are ready for pickup at the Salvation Army building, 610 N. William Street, Goldsboro. Any group or organization may fill them.

Each year, the Salvation Army distributes over 1,500 stockings to needy children. Please return the filled stocking to the Salvation Army no later than December 5.


Festival of Trees

Keep Johnston County Beautiful, Inc., a non-profit organization, is planning its fourth annual “Festival of Trees” to be held November 29 – December 9, 2007 at the Johnston Medical Mall in Smithfield.  This year’s theme is “A Johnston County Christmas” where approximately 60 decorated NC grown Fraser firs will be on display for the public to enjoy at no charge.   Entertainment is scheduled for the 2007 Festival of Trees at various times throughout the week. 


Clayton Christmas parade

The Clayton Area Chamber of Commerce 2007 Clayton Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 8th, at 3 p.m. in downtown Clayton.
