Eagles take down Midway

By Zach Evans
NL Special Correspondent

19 December 2007 — The Rosewood Eagles boys’ basketball team performed well late in a close contest with the Midway Raiders to win 53-46 and improve their record to 4-3.

A Midway three-point shot tied the game at 44-44 with 1:30 remaining in the fourth quarter.  The Raiders fouled Rosewood’s Stephen McIntyre on the ensuing possession, and McIntyre sank both of his free throws to give the Eagles a 46-44 lead.  The Eagles extended the lead with clutch free throws by McIntyre, Sean Cornman, and Taylor Allen as well as stifling defense to prevent Midway from scoring anything other than an inconsequential lay-up as time expired.

“We did a really good job at the free throw line late in the fourth quarter,” said Rosewood Head Coach Daniel Baines.

Coach Baines also praised his team’s zone defense, stating that they “…played well as a unit.”

Tyler Muntz led the Eagles in scoring with 18 points, several of which coming after offensive rebounds.  McIntyre finished with 15 points, and Allen, whom Baines noted as hitting several key baskets for the Eagles, scored 11 points.

On Tuesday and Wednesday last week, the Eagle boys split games.

At Louisburg Tuesday the Eagles were dealt a humbling 57-31 loss.

McIntyre led Rosewood with 11 points, and Sean Cornman added ten.

Wednesday McIntyre had 18 as the Eagles rebounded with a 50-39 win over Hobbton. Muntz had eight points in the win.
