Lady Eagles top Hobbton at home

By Zach Evans
NL Special Correspondent

19 December 2007 — The Rosewood Lady Eagles basketball played a strong first half against the Midway Raiders Friday evening, but fell behind in the third quarter before losing 57-48.

The Lady Eagles scored eight straight points, including field goals by Mary Jo Moore and Taylor Johnson, in the second quarter to take a 19-14 lead. Midway responded with six of the half’s last seven points to tie the game 20-20 at halftime.

The Lady Raiders pulled away in the first four minutes of the third quarter, however, taking a 36-22 lead. Many of Midway’s points during this stretch came on the fast break.

“At times we hustled, and at other times we didn’t,” said Rosewood Coach Karen Williams at the conclusion of the game. “We’re a young team, and we’ve got a lot to learn.”

Haile Meadows scored 16 points for the Lady Eagles, earning praise from Coach Williams for her effort.  Williams also commended the defensive efforts of Gabby Cornman and Shantal Johnson.

Rosewood now holds a 4-3 record.

The Rosewood girls posted a home win Wednesday, tripping Hobbton 54-45.

Meadows had 19 points to lead the Lady Eagles. Paige Babb added nine, Jennifer Hall had eight, and Shantal Johnson had seven.
