Appreciation dinner

09 January 2008 — The Heritage Center's annual Contributing Patrons Appreciation Dinner on Thursday evening, Jan. 17 will pay tribute to Johnston County’s ties to the Grand Ole Opry – featuring Benson native Jimmy Capps, legendary Nashville guitarist and record producer, and his singing wife Michele Voan Capps.

Local radio legend Carl Lamm will emcee the Opry tribute.

Another featured performer will be 11-year-old Samantha Casey, bluegrass fiddler and singer who along with her guitar-playing father recently won the National 2007 Oreo & Milk Jingle Contest.

The dinner is open to persons who contribute to the Heritage Center's annual fund-raising campaign now going on. Donor categories range from $50 to $1,000. In addition, anyone who contributes $2,500 will be eligible for a “cameo” appearance in a Margaret Maron mystery novel to be finished later this year for release in 2009. Ms. Maron, a member of the Johnston County Heritage Commission, is making the “cameo” donor offer in memory of her mother, Claudia Stephenson Brown, one of the Heritage Center’s founding volunteers.

For more information, contact Wingate Lassiter, Heritage Center director, by phoning (919) 938-4708 or e-mailing heritagecenter@johnstonnc.com.
