MARILYN R. FARRELL
Marilyn Reid Farrell, 54, of Rosewood, died Thursday, January 17, at her home.
Marilyn was born in Polk County on June 1, 1953 to Ophelia Jones Reid and the late Roy G. Reid of Mooresville. She received a B.S. degree from Mars Hill College and her Masters from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and worked as an occupational therapist. Marilyn was an active member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church.
A service to celebrate her life was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19 at Pine Forest United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Olsen officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Frank Farrell; her son, Daniel Farrell, a student at North Carolina State University; her sister, Phyllis Graham and husband, Danny, of Mooresville and their children, Rachel and Robert. She is also survived by a number of cousins, other relatives and friends.

GLADYS G. HOWARD
Estella Gladys Bryan Garris Howard of Pikeville died at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro on Wednesday, January 16.
Gladys was the daughter of John William and Chellie Anna Andrews Bryan. She was born near Pikeville, and attended school in Belfast. She taught home economics, reading and health education at Rosewood High School, and was manager of the cafeteria at the Pikeville elementary and high school. Gladys was a member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Pikeville. She was a member of the Pikeville Garden Club and of the David Williams Chapter in Goldsboro of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1937 she married Eugene Garris, who died in 1990, and Hugh Howard of Pikeville in 1995.
Funeral services were held in Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Pikeville on Saturday, January 19, at 2 p.m., followed by burial at the Pikeville Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Lynn McKnight and son-in-law, Sam McKnight, of Raleigh; two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Neal McKnight and Melanie Johnson McKnight of London, England, Andrew McKnight and Samantha Corson of Philadelphia, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Madeline, Hannah and Andrew McKnight of London, Bolton and Reed McKnight of Philadelphia.
Memorial gifts may be made to Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.

DONALD W. SASSER
Donald Wayne Sasser, 68, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, January 16 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after a brief but sudden illness.
Don was born on December 24, 1939 in Princeton, son of the late James Herbert Sasser and Rosa Lynch Sasser. He was the business owner of Sasser's Rentals and the former owner of Sasser's Auto Sales. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Sasser and Robert Glen Sasser; one sister, Dorothy Mae Overbee; and one niece, Betty Sue Coston.
Don is survived by his wife, Betty L. Flake; five daughters, Donna McBride of Petersburg, N.J., Roxanne Lloyd and husband, John Lloyd, of Petersburg, N.J., Leann Lanier and husband, Michael Lanier, of Wilmington, Sharen Greenway and husband, Michael Greenway, of Wilmington, and Karen Gurganious of Apex; two sons, Wayne Gurganious and wife, Kathy Gurganious, of Raleigh, and Eddie Gurganious and wife, Ellen Gurganious, of Wilmington, ten grandchildren, Chip Moore and wife, Falon, Becca Gurganious, Joel Lloyd, Jeremy Gurganious, Brittany Spivey, Tony McBride, Wesley Gurganious, Roxanne Lloyd, Brett Gurganious, Kyle McBride; four step-grandchildren, Michael L. Greenway Jr., Ashley Greenway, Alyssa Greenway. Joshua Greenway; one sister, Myde Graham and husband, Tracy Graham; six nephews, Eddie Daughtry, Jeff Sasser, Rex Sasser, Dean Sasser, Herbie Sasser, Richie Sasser; and three nieces, Diana Taylor, Debbie Holt, Gail Sasser.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, at Sunset Baptist Church 231 Central Blvd., Wilmington. Interment followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

MARILYN R. FARRELL
Marilyn Reid Farrell, 54, died this morning, January 17, at her home. She is the wife of Frank Farrell of Rosewood.
A service to celebrate her life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19 at Pine Forest United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Olsen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Seymour Funeral Home.

EFFIE L. BLAKE
Effie Lee Blake, 76, of Smithfield, died Sunday, January 6 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Born June 20, 1931, in Johnston County, she was a daughter of the late Nathan and Ethel Blake.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon, January 12, at St. Mark AME Church in Smithfield. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Park.
Surviving are seven brothers and sisters, Carrie Bradley and Minnie Williams of Smithfield, Earlene Dunston of Pikeville, Richard Blake Ayers of Washington D.C., Roger Blake of Smithfield, John Blake of Pikeville, and Sam Blake of Princeton; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
KATIE EDWARDS
Katie Pauline Pollock Edwards, 85, of Clayton, died Monday, January 7 at the Brian Center of Clayton.
Born August 7, 1922, in Johnston County, Mrs. Edwards was a daughter of the late Jay Golden and Katie Pittman Pollock. She was the widow of Joseph Herman Edwards, who died in 1992.
A graveside service was held Wednesday afternoon, January 9, in the cemetery at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Dennis Pollock officiated.
Surviving are her son, Donald Joseph Edwards of Goldsboro; a daughter, Carolyn E. S. Andrews of Clayton; two sisters, Nellie Woodard of Princeton and Ellen Gottoschalk of Portsmouth, Va.; three grandsons, four stepgrandchildren, and six great-stepgrandchildren.

ROBERT G. PEARCE
Robert Glenn Pearce, 77, of Rosewood, died Saturday morning, January 12.
He was born in Wayne County on August 1, 1930, and was the son of the late Jessie and Lettie Capps Pearce.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, January 13, at Antioch Presbyterian Church, with burial following in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Reverend Lewis Baker and Reverend Kelley Buffaloe officiating.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Patsy Knuckles Pearce; a brother, Lynn Pearce of Goldsboro; a half-brother, Jessie Lee Pearce of Princeton; a half-sister, Kaye Wilson of Clayton; a grandson, Danny Glenn Pearce Jr. of LaGrange; and a granddaughter, April Dawn Pearce of LaGrange.

CECIL R. SPELL
Cecil Robbins Spell, 98, formerly of Princeton, died Sunday evening, January 13, at Smithfield Manor.
Born September 17, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Pink and Sara Sullivan Robbins. She was the widow of Woodard Harris Spell.
Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, January 15, at Casey Funeral Home in Princeton. The committal service will be today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. in Princeton Cemetery.
She is survived by a son, Harris Glenn Spell of Princeton; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
WALTER T. WILLIAMS SR.
Walter Timothy Williams Sr., 59, of Goldsboro, died Sunday, January 13 at his son's residence.
Born February 5, 1948, he was a native of Wayne County and the son of the late Jean Perry Williams and George Michael Williams. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
Graveside services with military honors were held Wednesday, January 16 at 3 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Jackie Ham officiating.
He is survived by a son, Tim Williams and wife, Katie, of Goldsboro; a daughter, Andrea Renee Williams of Asheboro; three brothers, Mike Williams and his wife, Pat, of Wrightsville Beach, Chris Williams of Greenville and Tom Williams of Durham; three sisters, Mary Mason and Alice Byrd, both of Durham, and Susan Jackson of Rosewood; four grandchildren, Allan Best, Nicholas Person, Cheyenne Parker and Alanya Williams.
