New school, new changes for Princeton
By Barry Merrill
NL Publisher
16 January 2008 — With the new school going up, there are a number of changes on the horizon.
One will be the appointment of a new principal to serve the new school. There will be a number of changes on the old campus once the elementary is moved out.
Dr. Tony Parker confirmed that applications have been received for the new principal job, and the application period has expired. He said he has not begun the process of reviewing the applicants or begun the interview process, but that should begin soon.
He said he expects the new principal will begin their duties April 1st with the opening of the school in June to prepare for the new school year.
Both Dr. Parker and Princeton Principal Kirk Denning confirmed that Princeton Elementary Assistant Principal Rhonda Ward is one of the applicants for the job.
Associate Superintendent for Facility Services Ann Williams said Thursday that once the school year ends, some work will have to be done to ready the old elementary classrooms for the fall, but she fully expects the mobile units on the campus will be moved off.
“We’re probably looking at moving the boards in some of the classrooms up for the taller middle school students, but I don’t think there will have to be a lot of other work done.”
Mr. Denning said there were some smaller toilets in the elementary wing that would have to be replaced, but the hall bathrooms have standard fixtures, so they will not have to be changed.
Mr. Denning mentioned there had been some earlier discussion about the possibility of moving the high school into the elementary wing, and moving the middle school into the old high school, but Ms. Williams doubted they would tackle that with the cost of equipping some labs.
Ms. Williams also noted that the elementary classrooms are a bit big as compared with the standard middle school classrooms, but said they should work well for the middle school.
One change Mr. Denning was clear would not happen, if he had anything to say about it. He has no intention of leaving Princeton this summer or any time in the foreseeable future.
