Barefoot, Hinton take Bulldogs to victory

By Barry Merrill
NL Publisher

23 January 2008 — The Bulldogs used defense, offensive rebounding and free throw shooting to overcome a determined North Duplin squad Friday night in a 59-45 conference win Friday night.

With exams the priority early in the week, there was no other game.

North Duplin claimed an early lead in the Rebel gym Friday, but Princeton’s pressure defense began wearing the home team down. The Dawgs seized a 36-31 halftime advantage.

In the second half the Rebels started hammering the Dawgs’ big post man, Josh Barefoot, and the senior made the most of his opportunities from the free throw line, hitting ten of ten chances from the charity stripe.

Meanwhile, Princeton’s other big man up front, Christopher Hinton, made the most of his chances, grabbing a dozen rebounds and cashing a bunch of the second chances to score a career-high 20 points.

Princeton’s hot outside shooter, Ryan Daughtry, had a relatively quiet 14 points in the defensive struggle.

PHS’s defense limited ND to just 14 second half points.

The Dawgs traveled to big rival North Johnston Tuesday night. Friday they host Ayden-Grifton. The two games will be against the other two conference schools who have begun the conference schedule with wins, as all three were 2-0 heading into Tuesday night’s games. Princeton is 13-3 in all games.

Next Tuesday Princeton travels to Rosewood.
