Bulldogs top North Johnston, fall to Ayden-Grifton

30 January 2008 — It was showdown week in the Carolina 1-A Conference last week, as Princeton played the other two top boys teams in the conference, one on the road Tuesday and then at home Friday.

The Dawgs took care of business at North Johnston last Tuesday, surviving a tough road battle to claim a 45-42 win.

Friday, Ayden-Grifton came to Princeton, and with tough, physical defense, denied the Dawgs, claiming a 57-49 victory.

The loss left the Chargers alone in first place at 4-0 in league play, while Princeton and North are tied a game back. Princeton is 14-4 overall.

The Bulldogs looked good early in front of the home fans Friday night, as they opened up an eight-point advantage in the second quarter. A long three-pointer by senior Michael Radford as the first quarter buzzer sounded sparked the 8-0 run by the Bulldogs that gave them the early lead.

The Chargers stormed back to tie, though Princeton held a two point edge at the halftime break.

In the second half A-G seized the early advantage, and Princeton never could recapture the lead, though staying close through the end of the third quarter. A 7-0 A-G start of the fourth quarter doomed Princeton.

Josh Barefoot led Princeton with 17 points. Ryan Daughtry added 14, and Christopher Hinton had ten.

Daughtry led Princeton with 18 points at North Johnston last Tuesday. Barefoot added nine, while Will Gainey and Michael Radford chipped in six apiece in the win.

Last night (Tuesday) the Eagles hosted Princeton in the backyard brawl. Friday they are at Spring Creek, and next Tuesday Princeton hosts North Duplin.
