Princeton Athletic Hall of Fame inductees
6 February 2008 — Friday Princeton High School will honor five outstanding contributors to the athletic program as they are inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
The inductees are George Drawhorn, Jill Worley, Eugene “Woody” Woodring, Scott Musgrave, and Fred Bartholomew.
George Drawhorn was a 1976 graduate of PHS. He starred in football and basketball, earning all conference in both sports in ’75 and ’76. He was also named All East and All Metro in football in ’76. He was all-tournament in basketball in ’75 and ’76, and was voted MVP in ’76. He was the team captain in football and basketball in ’76. He also ran track in 1974.
He went on to play at Chowan Junior College and Pembroke State, earning a degree at both.
He is a teacher and head basketball coach at Fike High School in Wilson, where he has been since 1990.
Jill Worley, a ’77 honors PHS grad, played basketball and softball at Princeton, earning all conference, All East, Honorable Mention All State, Player of the Year, and an East-West All Star, all in basketball. She was also all conference, all tournament and MVP in softball. She attended and played basketball at Louisburg College and Atlantic Christian.
She passed away in 2003.
Woody Woodring came to Princeton the same year Fred Bartholomew became principal at Princeton and the DOT employee was a key person in helping Princeton begin a football program, acquiring grading equipment for the field and overseeing many of the field projects.
For more than 25 years, he was a key person in the high school athletic booster club, holding every office and going much of the leg work for the fundraisers. He was the west gate gatekeeper for 25 years of home football games.
Woody is long retired, but still active in supporting Princeton and the Bulldogs.
Scott Musgrave was a 1992 PHS graduate, playing football, basketball and baseball. While an all-conference player, Extra Effort Award winner, and defensive award winner in football, and all conference, MVP, All-East, 2nd team All State, Extra Effort Award winner in basketball, baseball was Scott’s main sport.
He was MVP, All State, top batting average, MVP in the County Invitational Tourney, and on Princeton’s first state championship team. He was the ’92 Bulldog Award winner, and played in the State Game in baseball.
He went on to play for Appalachian State for four years and get his degree, and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox. He played professionally for three years.
He currently works for the Town of Cary as a facility supervisor for their baseball complex.
Fred Bartholomew is retiring this year from the school board after serving as Chairman of that board for the past five years.
He was principal at Princeton School for 28 years. During his time at the school, Princeton added middle and high school football, middle and high school volleyball, middle and high school softball, middle school baseball, tennis, golf, middle and high school track, weight lifting, and sports medicine. The school also added numerous athletic facilities.
The inductees of the second class of the Princeton Athletic Hall of Fame will be enshrined between the girls and boys basketball games Friday night.
