Hamilton coming to Selma
6 February 2008 — George Hamilton IV, North Carolina native and legendary Grand Ole Opry star, will perform country and gospel music on stage at the Historic Selma Ice and Coal Plant on Sunday afternoon, February 10, from 2-4 p.m.

Hamilton's appearance will be another in the Sunday Down South series, hosted by the Ice and Coal Plant. Also on stage with George will be the Throne of Grace Gospel Singers, based in Selma.
George Hamilton IV, a 47-year veteran of the Grand Ole Opry, had his first hit in late June 1958 with "A Rose and a Baby Ruth" by Durham native John D. Loudermilk. Since then he has enjoyed several hits, including "Sittin' in the Balcony," "Fort Worth, Dallas, or Houston," "Break My Mind," "In the Early Morning Rain," and "Abilene."
Hamilton has spent the last few years taking country music around the world, completing ten tours of Great Britain as the headliner of "Gospel Celebration," "The International Country Festival," and doing several BBC-TV productions, making a greater name for himself as the "International Ambassador of Country Music." In 1973, he became the first to tour behind the Iron Curtain, in Russia and Czechoslovakia.
While George will be performing some of his classic hits, he will focus on Southern Gospel music and stories about his life and Christian inspirations.
Doors will open at the Selma Ice and Coal Plant at 1 p.m., and the Throne of Grace will open around 1:30, with Hamilton's performance beginning at 2.
