Four-way tie for Hoops picks

6 February 2008 — After a week of tough to pick games, the Pick the Hoops Contest may have been a little too predictable this week.

Four pickers got seven of the eight games correct to tie atop the standings.

Valerie Howell of Smithfield just missed on the Ayden-Grifton win over the Rosewood girls. Louise Daughtry and Ken Langston, both of Princeton, fell on the Spring Creek girls upset of Princeton, their only misses. Craig Partin of Selma only missed one, that one being the tie-breaker NCSU win over Wake Forest.

On the tie-breaker, Ms. Howell tossed up a 72-64 prediction, only six off the actual 67-65 final, and the clear winner in the contest. She won four tickets to this Wednesday’s Rice at ECU game.

Nathaniel L. Sanders Jr. of Clayton garnered an honorable mention this week.

This week we’ve got more ECU tickets up for the winner. This time we’re offering four tickets to the Southern Mississippi game at ECU on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. They could be yours, but only if you enter. Cut out the entry in today’s News leader and fill it out and either mail it in or take it to our Princeton office by 5 p.m. on Friday, or enter online by 5 p.m. Friday.
