EDWIN R. CHESTNUT

Edwin Rudolph "Rudy" Chestnut, 81, of Goldsboro, died Thursday, February 14 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Rudy was born on June 27, 1926 to the late William Chestnutt and Lillie Pate Chestnutt. He was the owner and operator of Rudy's Mart on Highway 70 West. Rudy served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 16 at 7 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Dann Patrick officiating. Interment will be Sunday, February 17 at 3 p.m. at Willow Dale Cemetery.

Rudy is survived by his wife, Kay Hinson Chestnutt; his son, James Edwin Chestnutt and wife, Pam, of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Jonathan Chestnutt and Jordan Chestnutt; his brother, James Arnold Chestnut and wife, Jewel, of Princeton; his sisters, Eloise Baker and husband, J.Y., of Clayton, Mary L. Parks and husband, Harold, of Pine Knoll Shores, Verla Tew and husband, John, of Goldsboro; his sister-in-law, Adelle Chestnutt of Goldsboro; his brother-in-law, Jim Hinson and wife, Cindy, of Goldsboro; his nephews, Jay Chestnut and wife, Laverne, Michael Miller Chestnut, Stanley Chestnut and wife, Edith, Dwight Chestnut and wife, Debbie, Randy J. Baker and wife, Jacque, S. Wayne Baker and wife, Kim, Brian Parks, Edwin Glenn Parks and wife, Brenda, Zack Hinson and wife, Hope, Adam Hinson; and his nieces, Emily J. High and husband, Louis, Beth Holloman and husband, Bruce, Alease Connors and husband, Lance, Renee' Turnage and husband, Joe, Joy Tew Bissette and husband, Dennis, Alice H. Cordell and husband, Matt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Elwood Chestnutt; and a nephew, Kelvin Parks.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Faith Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 1200 W. Grantham St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m. and immediately following the service at Faith Free Will Baptist Church.

Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

JAMES D. 'J.D.' MITCHELL

James David “J.D.” Mitchell, 80, of Princeton, died Thursday morning, February 7, at his home. 

Born June 1, 1927 in Johnston County to the late Fred Lewis and Bessie Jones Mitchell, he was preceded in death by three brothers, C. L. Mitchell, Elbert Mitchell, and Bobby Mitchell, and a sister, Lois Wood.  He was a member of the Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 9 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.  Burial followed in the Bizzell Grove Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are a sister, Ruth Bass of Princeton; two sisters-in-law, Lalon Mitchell of Princeton and Betty Mitchell of Clayton; nieces and nephews, Merlon Evans of Princeton, David Minchew of Buffalo Junction, VA, Charles Mitchell of Princeton, Jackie Wood of Princeton, Kay Boyette of Archer’s Lodge, Freddie Mitchell of Princeton and Leisa Picciotti of LaGrange; 13 great nieces and nephews; and 12 great great nieces and nephews.

WALDA G. JOHNSON

Walda Godwin Johnson, 70, of Princeton, died Monday, February 11 at Smithfield Manor.

Born January 20, 1938 in Johnston County, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Walter and Lillian Hales Godwin. Her first husband was the late Bobby Ray Little. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Pine Level Missionary Baptist Church.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, February 13) at Oliver Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy Johnson; two stepdaughters, Janet Dehart of Micro and Marcia Kay Sullivan of Princeton; a sister, Dolores Holt of Princeton; and two stepgrandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Pine Level Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 340, Pine Level, NC 27568.

JOSEPH L. RAYMAKER

Joseph Leonard Raymaker, 73, of Princeton, died Thursday afternoon, February 7, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. 

Born August 14, 1934 in Green Bay, WI, he was a son of the late Joseph Peter and Sophie Baumann Raymaker and was the widower of Vera Lee Ingram Raymaker, who died on August 3, 1998. He was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence Raymaker and Harold Raymaker and sisters, Mary Raymaker, Carol Ann Raymaker and Joyce Raymaker and nephews, Ricky Raymaker, Tim Raymaker and Robert VanRite. He joined the US Navy in 1951 and devoted 20 years to his country. After retiring with full military honors, he joined CP&L as a maintenance engineer and retired in 1986.  He was a member of Tees Chapel Church of Brogden and the American Legion in Pine Level.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 11, in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. He was laid to rest, with military honors, in the Dicey-Dunn Cemetery near Four Oaks.

Surviving are his sons, James J. Raymaker and wife Susanne of Orion, IL, and Joseph P. “Joey” Raymaker of Princeton; daughters, Susan Raymaker Clark and husband Richard of Princeton and Cynthia Raymaker Cartwright and husband William of Old Town, MD; brothers, Norbert Raymaker and wife, Lavern, and George Raymaker and wife, Joan, all of Green Bay, WI; sister, Dorothy VanRite and husband Marvin of Green Bay, WI; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kenneth, Kimberly and Timothy; sister-in-law, Joanne Raymaker; and brother-in-law, Fernando Rodriguez.

PEARLLEAN W. WOODARD

Pearllean Webb Woodard, 92, of Rosewood, died Friday, February 8.

Born on November 10, 1915, she was a native of Pine Level.  She was a member of Rosewood First Baptist, but had been a life long member of Pine Level Baptist Church before moving to Rosewood.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with her grandson, Dr. Lloyd Braswell, officiating. 

Mrs. Woodard was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Woodard; a son, Russell Woodard; and a great granddaughter, Kaitlin Braswell.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice Braswell and husband Vernon of Rosewood; daughter-in-law, Lilly Woodard of Burlington; grandchildren, Vickie Harris and husband Matt of Midlothian, VA, Lloyd Braswell and wife Anne of Durham, Susan Fox and husband Allen of Charlotte, Frankie Woodard and wife Susie of Burlington, Janet Reed of Burlington, and Darlene Woodard of Burlington.  Mrs. Woodard was also survived by 15 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
