13 February 2008 — The shortstop-pitcher from the state champion baseball team had some shining moments on the basketball court last week.

Ryan Daughtry, who was honored last Tuesday for amassing over 1,000 points for the basketball Bulldogs over his career, put in 16, including clutch baskets down the stretch later that night in a narrow 47-44 win over North Duplin. Friday he poured in 21 in a 53-42 win over North Johnston.

The two wins put Princeton in second, a game up on NJ, but two behind Ayden-Grifton. The Chargers host the 2nd and 3rd place squads this week.
Last Tuesday a pesky North Duplin squad came to the Princeton gym with a patience and defense that troubled the Bulldogs.

In the final minute, Princeton held a one-point advantage when Daughtry hit a free throw to push the advantage to two, but the Rebels quickly answered, tying the game at 44.
With the game on the line, Daughtry got the rock, knifing through the Duplin defense to score the lay-up and drawing a foul on the shot. He sank the bonus shot, forcing Duplin to try long-rangers at the end that missed.

Christopher Hinton had 13 for the Bulldogs, including going 3 of 3 from the foul line.
Friday the Bulldogs overcame a determined Panther squad who played Princeton tough in the first half, eager to avenge their earlier loss at NJ. Princeton pulled away in the second half for the pivotal conference win.
Josh Barefoot stepped up with a 15-point effort in the win.

The win Friday virtually assured Princeton of a second place finish in the conference. The only way they won’t finish second is if Princeton loses both of their final games and North Johnston wins both.
Of course, Princeton is facing the only two conference foes they have lost to this week. Tuesday they were to travel to Ayden-Grifton. Friday they host Rosewood. If they finish first or second they will get a first round conference tournament bye and won’t be playing until Thursday. If they fall to third, they would host the first round of the tournament Tuesday.
Princeton is 6-2 in the league, and 17-5 in all games.
