PHS girls take win over Rosewood

20 February 2008 — The Princeton girls took care of business Friday night in what might be termed an uninspired win over Rosewood, 42-35.

Last Tuesday, the two teams took it on the chin. Rosewood lost a 43-40 decision at North Duplin, while Princeton suffered a humbling 58-20 defeat at Ayden-Grifton.
Friday the Rosewood offense showed some signs of connecting early as Haile Meadows hit a couple of early baskets as did Mary Jo Moore and Rosewood claimed a 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The offenses struggled through the next two quarters, with Ashley Huffman’s two field goals in the third quarter finally giving the Lady Bulldogs a bit of an advantage going into the final eight minutes.
The final quarter ended up being a lot of trips to the free throw line, and while Princeton missed 14 of the 22 free throws they took, Rosewood only made six of the 15 they took.
Meadows hit the only Rosewood field goal of the final eight minutes, but that was a three-pointer.
She led Rosewood with 11 points, while Moore had eight for the Lady Eagles.

Huffman led Princeton with ten points. Brittany Baker had a tough fourth quarter, missing eight straight at the free throw line, but she would redeem herself there Monday in the rematch (see other story). She had eight points Friday night, and Tylan George and Amber Wood added seven and six respectively.
