Princeton considers annexation of lots

27 February 2008 — Princeton is starting to go down the path towards annexation of some nearby parcels.

Princeton Mayor Don Rains cautioned Monday night that some property owners miles from the present town limits have begun protesting, even though they are nowhere near the areas being considered, nor is the town near officially proposing annexing any particular properties.

Mayor Rains characterized the areas under study as cleaning up and bringing in some near-by parcels.

The town commissioned a study by the Division of Community Development to lay out the costs of annexing certain tracts. That study is to go to the town’s planning board this Tuesday night for their consideration. After they consider the study it would come to the town board. If both the planning board and the town board agreed to go forward, then public hearings would begin after affected property owners were notified.

He noted that four different areas were studied: Dr. Donnie Jones Blvd. taking in Triangle Service and the old IGA property, properties near Edwards Rd. along Old Cornwallis Rd., Northside subdivision, and three houses between the present town limits and the new school on Holt’s Pond Road.
