WCPS Students Celebrate 2008 National FFA Week

27 February 2008 — Wayne County Public Schools’ FFA students celebrated National FFA Week February 16-23, 2008. This year’s theme is “Blue Jackets, Bright Futures”. The theme embodies the most recognizable symbol of the organization, the blue corduroy jacket, a symbol of pride and tradition, as well as the bright future of agriculture and the traditions of leadership and hard work.

On Thursday, February 21, FFA chapters met with Dr. Steven Taylor, WCPS Superintendent, as he signed a FFA proclamation declaring it “FFA Week” for the school system. As a part of FFA Week, FFA members have held the following events:

Rosewood High held a School Faculty & Staff Appreciation Breakfast; a Clean Truck Contest; an FFA Social – Game Night – Special Guest Brady Revels, National FFA Vice President; Agriculture Olympics; and an FFA Luncheon.

Southern Wayne High held an FFA Luncheon – Cookout.

Spring Creek High had Create your own T-shirt day; Muddy Truck Contest; FFA Social with Special Guest, National FFA Officer; Agriculture Olympics; and an FFA Luncheon.

The focus of National FFA Week is to tell America about the great opportunities available for all youth. From its beginnings in 1928 as the Future Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization today reaches out to all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. FFA is committed to developing character and leadership skills and preparing members for a lifetime of civic leadership and career success.
